This sounds like a good idea.  I have much more work to do to make it robust
and well tested, but it's nice to have it in the repository to make it easy
for me to work on multiple computers.

Yep, I was using jack and I noticed this too (jackd stops, right?), but I
thought it was because I was using a slow computer.  It worked then if I
restarted jack (and press stop/play in network editor too).  I'm not sure
what this might be causing this... any suggestions?
 I'll try to look into this more now that I know it's not just a
problem w/ my computer.
