[CLAM] A sort of equalizator

I search an example (if any), in terms of source code, of a sort of  
equalizator that receives in input an mp3 file and print on the standard output 
(in real time) the analisys in frequency of the file (such as a 'testual' 
equalizator).
A program that helps me to study (at various intervals) the changing (in terms 
of amplitude and rhythm) of the signal, and that allows me to use these data 
for other works, possibly.

If I was not clear enough, please tell me.
